Refrigerator troubleshooting

All about refrigerator troubleshooting

The refrigerator is a cooling appliance, and a very common household product that exists in almost all the homes today. The refrigerator, also known as the fridge is mainly composed of thermal insulation within its compartment. Apart from thermal insulation for cooling, it also contains heat pump, which is powered by mechanical or chemical energy to transport the heat from the fridge to the external environment in a bid to cool the contents within the fridge. But, all these components of the refrigerator may malfunction if you don’t take proper care. In case there is some defect or malfunctioning of the refrigerator, then you must know certain ‘refrigerator troubleshooting’ tips that may prove to be useful. The refrigerator troubleshooting tips are as follows:

Suppose your refrigerator is not cooling properly then it is possible that there might be a restriction within the sealed system of the refrigerator. Also there might be a leak in the sealed system of the refrigerator, because of which the Freon of the fridge is also malfunctioning. In such a scenario, you must check out the condenser coils of the fridge.

Alternatively in refrigerator troubleshooting, if there are no problems with the condenser fan, and it is working efficiently, then in such a situation you must check out to see whether the voltage is going to the relays of the refrigerator compressor’s side. This is because, more often than not these are the parts of the refrigerator that cause problems and you must ensure that the voltage of the compressor is 120 volts. Also you must observe the pins of the compressor, to which the relays are attached. You must carefully, detach the clip that is holding the compressor attached to the relay of the side.

The other refrigerator troubleshooting tip for this kind of problem is to completely unplug your appliance by removing all the pins that are attached. But if the compressor is the source of problem then one of the best refrigerator troubleshooting tips is to check it with multi-meter and set it to ohms. If it is found that the compressor is defective, then you must scrape the paint of black colour to get the bare metal and ensure that the windings don’t get shorted.

Apart from this, if there is a problem like the fridge is not running but the light is working, then the refrigerator troubleshooting tip is to check the settings of the temperature. Also ensure that there is a space of three inches between the walls and the back as well as side of the outside of the refrigerator and one inch space above to enable the air to flow properly. You also need to clean the coils of condenser. The other tip is to unplug the fridge for a couple of hours and plug again, now if you observe the noise then the compressor is overheating. For this you need to test the evaporator fan, timer, compressor relay, motor of compressor and the overload protector.
These are some of the refrigerator troubleshooting tips that may be of great use for you.
